About High Meadow Cooperative #1
High Meadow Cooperative No.1, Inc. is a highly desirable, welcoming and vibrant community. We are situated on 16 ½ acres in a park-like setting.
The land that High Meadow stands on was part of the 120-acre estate of the James Speyer. The estate was called High Meadow. In the mid 1950’s the United Nations bought the Speyer Estate with the plan to build 350 units for employees of the United Nations. This would account for the street names, Charter Circle and Geneva Road. United Nations residential community encountered difficulties that prevented the development from moving off the ground.
In 1962 High Meadow co-op was built under Section 213 of the National Housing Act, with the F. H.A. insuring 96% of the mortgage cost. The Articles of Incorporation for High Meadow Cooperative No.1, Inc were signed in 1962.
